Lincoln Heights Jail Proposal

Led by Women Organizing Resources, Knowledge, and Service (WORKS), MLA collaborated with Omgivning and KFA to put forth Las Alturas, a vision for the Lincoln Heights Jail. Las Alturas will benefit the site and community by providing design and programming to strengthen economic, social, and environmental health. We will provide much-needed housing, jobs, education, services, and retail and dining opportunities for those who choose to live in Las Alturas, for Lincoln Heights community members, and for all those who will come to this new economically sustainable transit- and river-oriented regional destination development. More than a bricks-and-mortar adaptive re-use project, it is the transformation of a former jail and the manifestation of justice. It is a space for everyone – young and old – to heal, learn, live, and thrive. We presented this vision with two other teams to the Lincoln Heights community and an advisory board for the City of Los Angeles. You can see more images on our Advocacy Page here.
