California Wildlife Conservation Board Awards $12.5 Million Grant to Puente Hills Landfill Park

We are thrilled to share that the California State Wildlife Conservation Board has awarded Los Angeles County Parks a generous $12.5 million grant for the Puente Hills Landfill Park project. This incredible support will help bring our Vision Plan and community-driven design to life, creating the county’s first new regional park in 30 years.

The grant will fund the development of vital park infrastructure, including walking trails, picnic areas, and open spaces for recreational activities. It will also support the planting of native California plant communities throughout the park, enhancing biodiversity and ecological health. As Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Director Norma E. Garcia-Gonzalez noted, “this park is the culmination of a decades-long vision to transform the former landfill and its 150 million tons of trash into a public space, a place for nature and wildlife, a place for healing, restoration, and regeneration.”

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Wildlife Conservation Board for believing in the community’s vision of a ‘Park for All.’ This grant is a vital step in transforming Puente Hills Landfill into a vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive green space for everyone to enjoy.
