Blackbirds
Blackbirds is an exploration to address the housing shortage by increasing density within an existing residential neighborhood. Eighteen dwelling units are clustered around an internal courtyard on 2.35 acres. Half the dwellings face neighborhood streets with access and entrances to single family, duplex or triplex residences. The homes are scaled to their neighbors to conceal the developmentās higher density configuration. A Woonerf plaza accommodates open-air parking behind the houses to allow ample space and opportunity for community gatherings and interaction. The landscape design of this new small-lot subdivision takes clues from the surrounding hills for contextually-appropriate planting.
