Fair Park Community Park

Fair Park Community Park

Fair Park is a 277-acre historic fairground located in South Dallas. It is home to the largest collection of publicly owned Art Deco architecture in the U.S. and an incubator for prestigious museums, institutions, and events. Each fall since 1886, Fair Park has hosted the State Fair of Texas to commemorate all things Texan. Alongside the annual celebration, the State Fair and Fair Park share a difficult past. Misdeeds by previous park operators more than fifty years ago led to racial segregation, distrust, and disuse. Fair Park’s present-day management is committed to changing this by creating a new and improved greenspace curated by the community.

Lead designer Studio-MLA in collaboration with Studio Outside, AGWms_studio (Allison Williams, FAIA) and bcWorkshop, as well as a robust team of local partners, is guiding the design and implementation of the to serve as a transformative point in Fair Park’s history. The Community Park is the first step to putting the “Park” back in Fair Park. The design includes an outdoor performance stage, dog park, outdoor cafes, exercise equipment, inclusive and intergenerational playgrounds, fitness loop. interactive water feature, market grove, and more. Anticipated to open in 2024, this new green-vestment seeks to be a catalyst for change in South Dallas and a special new place where residents and visitors are welcomed to enjoy nature, gather, experience a terrific range of activities, and explore Fair Park.
