Irvine Towers is a renovation of a 4.7 acre commercial property of five class-A office towers in Irvine, California. Studio-MLA worked with the Irvine Company to create an atmosphere of connectivity, innovation and collaboration. The updates included a variety of outdoor amenities which invite tenants and guests to socialize, exercise, work and dine.
The site plan integrated key circulation paths with open spaces to tie the complex’s varied programs into a cohesive whole. Amenities were re-distributed throughout the site to give identity and personality while creating distinct spaces. Programmatically, Studio-MLA created flexible work spaces and allowed for social gatherings while simultaneously providing quiet areas of respite.
Renamed “The Commons”, this dynamic outdoor gathering area was designed to bring the workplace community together in a creative, relaxed way. Updates included comfortable seatings, outdoor fire pits, a large shade structure with conference space, lounge and TVs, outdoor music, updated lighting, and an elevated event platform. The renovation created shaded seating areas framed by low-water native plantings, shade tree allees, outdoor workstations, a games court, a central gathering and dining plaza, and iconic entry planting. This refreshed, drought-tolerant planting palette highlighted the color, texture and form of the plants. Studio-MLA selected more contemporary site furnishings in a variety of flexible configurations, pottery and selective hardscape upgrades.
